Event Overview
On April 27, 2025, during World Autism Awareness Month, Gifted People Services (GPS), in collaboration with Pickering High School and Durham Forever Young Activity Center, hosted a heartwarming charity concert at the St. Francis Centre in Ajax. The event aimed to foster understanding and acceptance for individuals on the autism spectrum through the power of music.

Guest Speeches & Community Support
The concert was emceed by Pickering High School students Hillary and Allie. Distinguished guests included:
Rob Cerjanec, MPP for Ajax, who praised GPS's contributions and the creativity of the children's artwork. Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby, representing the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, emphasized equal growth opportunities for every child and commended GPS's longstanding support for special needs communities. Nancy Henry, Ajax Ward 2 Councillor, shared her personal connection to the cause and expressed hope for more such events in Ajax.
All speakers underscored the importance of providing equal opportunities for all children and called for collective efforts to support them.
The event received generous support from sponsors: Joy and Heidi from Hengtai Group. David Zhong from Trinity Financial. Yolanda from CHAT Insurance Additionally, Our Little Bakery Inc. provided delightful desserts for attendees.



Fantastic Performances and Highlights
The concert commenced with the PHS Junior Jazz Ensemble delivering three captivating pieces: “Sunday Drive” “Glass Half Full” and the classic “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing”. Their performance set an energetic tone for the event.
Claudia Sun, a devoted mother of three children on the autism spectrum, took the stage with her two sons to perform heartfelt renditions of “My Heart Will Go On” and “Memory.” Her emotional delivery resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the profound bond between a mother and her children.
Hosts Hillary and Allie contributed to the event's warmth by performing “We Become We,” emphasizing unity and togetherness. David Zhong from Trinity Financial followed with a moving interpretation of “You Raise Me Up,” dedicating the song to parents and caregivers of children with special needs.
The PHS Senior Jazz Ensemble concluded the concert with a dynamic set, including “Fowl Play,” “Dark Matter,” and “Something’s Gotta Give.” Their diverse repertoire and exceptional musicianship brought the event a triumphant close.
Gifted People Services extends heartfelt gratitude to the over 30 high school students and music educators who participated, especially under the guidance of music teacher Mr. David Kosurko. Their dedication and talent were instrumental in the concert's success. Special thanks are also due to Pickering High School for their unwavering support.
Proceeds from the concert will directly benefit the Centre's ongoing autism support programs, providing essential resources to families in need. This memorable evening showcased the power of music to foster understanding, inspire hope, and build a more inclusive community.
