2025 Summer Carnival
August 9, 2025, Markham
On a sunny August day, the Gifted People Services (GPS), with Ameow Media as co-organizer, hosted the highly anticipated “Summer Carnival” on August 9, 2025, in Markham. As one of the most popular family-friendly community events of the year, this carnival not only brought abundant summer fun to families but also centered on public service and inclusion, conveying understanding and support for children with special needs.

The event kicked off with a warm greeting from GPS founder Ms. Yu Jiang and GPS ambassador Kelly, who welcomed families, children, and community friends to enjoy this community celebration to the fullest.
The carnival also received visits and support from various political and community leaders, including Ontario MPP Aris Babikian, City Councillor Simon Cui, City Councillor Castro Liu, City Councillor Jamaal Myers’ representative Emily Law, and representatives from the venue provider, St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church. Their presence not only added prestige to the event but also reflected the community’s care and commitment to children with special needs and their families.

This year’s carnival was not only a playground for fun but also a warm gathering for the entire community. Families from diverse cultural backgrounds came together, with children meeting new friends through games and laughter, while parents connected in a relaxed environment, exchanging parenting tips and sharing life experiences. Many first-time participants were pleasantly surprised to find that the carnival was not just about entertainment, but also about experiencing the spirit of inclusivity, care, and mutual support. These genuine human connections have made the carnival a meaningful and heartwarming community tradition.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the carnival buzzed with energy as families enjoyed bouncy castles, basketball games, obstacle courses, and parent-child challenges set to upbeat DJ music. At the kids’ “trunk market,” young vendors sold toys, books, and crafts — learning trade skills while building confidence.
Multiple rounds of lucky draws kept excitement high, with the grand prize — a brand-new iPad — revealed in the final hour. Hotdogs, ice cream, balloon art, face painting, and mini-games added to the fun and created memorable bonding moments for parents and children.

“Through events like the carnival, we hope more families can connect with and better understand children with special needs, while also providing practical support,” shared Gifted People Services. “Every bit of support helps these children grow.”
Volunteers played a vital role, assisting with setup, registration, games, and booths to ensure the event ran smoothly. Parents praised the thoughtful organization and the joy it brought to their children.
The success of the Summer Carnival was made possible by the collective support of residents, businesses, government representatives, volunteers, and staff — turning it into not just a family celebration, but a heartfelt community gathering.
