What is Language Delay?
Language delay refers to a situation where a child's verbal expression or language comprehension ability is significantly behind the normal development, mainly manifested in late speech, small vocabulary, unclear expression , etc. Language delay may be temporary or may be an early manifestation of other developmental problems (such as autism spectrum disorder, hearing problems, intellectual development delay, language disorders, etc.). Therefore, parents need to pay close attention to their children's language development, especially during the golden period of language development (2.5 to 6 years old).
At this time, they may need the help of a speech therapist (Speech-Language Pathologist, SLP).
